This class teaches information and skills needed to safely react to any emergency, and effectively treat all victims. Using "Cal OSHA" criteria and nationaly recognized first aid techniques, "Basic First Aid" covers injuries and illnesses common to: the home, occupational settings, sports injuries and much more, including- specific infant and elderly emergencies.

This class is approximately two hours of lecture and hands on practice, and should be refreshed every two years. You will receive the knowledge and confidence to recognize, react and render care to any emergency. At the end of the class you will be competent in such issues as: manageing the victim of a car accident; a child with an asthma attack and people with seizures. "Basic First Aid" is what you need to know in order to prevent a bad situation from getting worse.

The first thing you learn, is how to recognize an emergency and various signs of life threatening situations. The basics of rescuer safety and disease prevention are instilled throughout the class. You are given one or two specific indicators which will lead you to focus on the most appropriate action.

The second step in "Basic First Aid" is to react safely and effectively to all emergencies. We give you the tools to understand how to react. The most basic reaction to any emergency is reenforced through interaction and repitition during the class. To prevent further injury or death, the rescuer will increase the chance of survival, by calling 911 and monitoring the "ABC's"; Simple, yet the most effective tools you could ever know.

Finally, to render proper care, you will learn simple skills for all emergencies: bandageing, splinting and the techniques to treat diabetics and burn victims, and many more. Just a few easy to remember and easy to do skills, used by EMT's, Paramedics and Doctors everday. Skills which will keep the person alive or give them the greatest chance to survive the terible ordeal.
